The USDA will now be offering a series of grants to fuel retailers to offer more choices for consumers at the pump. These are called the USDA Higher Blends Infrastructure Grants. Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation President Kevin Paap says the effort is positive for Minnesota. “At one gas station in Albert Lea, Minnesota, it is estimated to increase ethanol sales by 6.6 million gallons per year. This is a great program to help with infrastructure and get our renewable fuels to the facility.” Paap met with Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue as part of Thursday’s announcement. “You can’t talk about ethanol without talking about the small refinery exemptions,” says Paap. “We heard loud and clear from the secretary this administration believes 15 billion gallons means 15 billion gallons and that is a consistent message. We need to make sure we have that demand.”
