In the age of resistant weeds, paraquat in making a comeback. “It’s always been a very good chemical as a harvest aid to help pulse crops,” said Andrew Thostenson, pesticide program specialist, NDSU Extension. “The other thing is we have lots of prevent plant acres out there. Paraquat is an effective tool to control weeds on those acres.” Paraquat is a restricted use pesticide with special restrictions on handling and safety. “You need specialized training for it to get you up to speed on the proper handling and management of the chemical.”
