For Stockmen’s Livestock Exchange owner Larry Schnell, the highlight of the USDA’s investigation report on cattle pricing was at the beginning and the end. That’s where the USDA said its investigation will continue and if they find something, they’ll ask for a response from the Department of Justice. “That might not seem like a whole lot, but for them to even mention or say they’re having discussions with the Department of Justice is a big deal and hopefully, good will come of it.” Schnell, who is also vice president of the Livestock Marketing Association, would like a thorough investigation. “There is a lot of cattle feeders out there who have lost money and there are others who haven’t been able to sell cattle. We need the administration’s help. It seems a lot of times they aren’t on our side of the fence, but it’s the only ballgame we’ve got.”
