The joint conference of the Red River Watershed Management Board and the Flood Damage Reduction Working Group was held Tuesday and Wednesday in Moorhead. Jason Braaten, who farms and is a member of the Roseau River Watershed District board, says water management is important for farmers. “A lot of the ditches were made 50 or 60 years ago and at that time they worked good. Now, most farmers have lasers on their scrapers and they get the water off the field, but the ditches can’t keep up.” To make a difference for farmers, Braaten says a region-wide approach is necessary. The Red River Watershed Management Board is seeking $12.5 million in legislative bonding for projects across the Red River Basin.
