If grain is being shipped out of the Northern Plains, it typically heads toward the Pacific Northwest. Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council CEO Tom Slunecka says it’s a long way between here and there. “There’s lots of regulations, a lot of players that need to be involved in the process and this conference is here to talk about what needs to be done to streamline the process.” The Northern Commodity Transportation Conference highlighted everything from phytosanitary issues, rail blockages, double tracking, bridge safety and truck weights. “Every single one of those issues cost farmers money. Together, we can solve some of these challenges.”
