Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced an Ag Innovation Agenda during the USDA Agriculture Outlook Forum. This agenda focuses on food waste, greenhouse gas, water quality and renewable energy. Moving forward, USDA will be striving for carbon sequestration enhancement through soil health and forestry and a reduction in nutrient loss by 30 percent across the country by 2050. The USDA will also look to increase the production of renewable energy feedstocks. That means achieving market-driven blends of 15 percent of transportation fuels in 2030 and 30 percent of transportation fuels by 2050.
