As farmers prepare for spring, NDSU Extension Soil Scientist Dave Franzen recommends light tillage for those fields that were too wet to get into last fall. “Do as little tillage as possible. Even if the field has deeper roots, it’s better to go across multiple times with something shallow than it is to go deep.” Franzen says residue management will be a challenge. “It’s a whole system people have to think about.”
