According to the USDA, U.S. chipping potatoes will now be allowed to enter Japan year-round. That includes Minnesota and North Dakota fresh potatoes for processing. Previous import protocols for chipping potatoes was from February 1 to July 30 each year. Japan is the U.S. potato industry’s largest export market. In 2019, the U.S. exported 32,240 metric tons of fresh chipping potatoes to Japan.
