The North Dakota Soybean Processors are still trying to bring a farmer-owned soybean crush plant to North Dakota, but it just won’t be in Spiritwood. In July 2019, the Spiritwood Energy Park Association terminated a contract with the group when they didn’t meet agreed upon timelines for a large-scale soy crush project. “We were really disappointed at that point,” says Bruce Hill, president, North Dakota Soybean Processors. Now, Hill says the group is in the process of locating a second site for a crush facility. “Originally, we were quoted by six to eight different communities including Moorhead, Wahpeton and Valley City. There were a few others people asked us to look at also.” Hill says NDSP want to keep their current farmer investors and local support in North Dakota, but there are no plans at this time to meet and discuss next steps for the project. SEPA is moving forward with a future prospect in Spiritwood, but Hill says doesn’t know much about it. Listen to the story.
