Didrikson Farms of Badger, Minnesota was one of seven regional finalists for the Environmental Stewardship Award Program at this year’s Cattle Industry Convention. Over the past six years, Dana Didrikson, along with his brother Thor, have transitioned their cowherd and feeder cattle to an intensive grazing system. “As we were managing our grass, we didn’t have a lot of resiliency out there,” says Dana. “In the cattle industry, the only thing you really can control are costs. The number one cost is feed and the cheapest feed is grass. So when you can maximize the number of days spent grazing, it directly impacts your profitability.” Taking home the top ESAP honor was Blackbeard Ranch of Florida.
