This past week, the Risk Management Agency visited North Dakota to review changes to crop insurance and the tough harvest. Crop insurance agents like Full-Service Insurance Agency’s Warren Brend got a refresh on claim procedures and prevent plant ahead of 2020. “It was a tough year. Farmers had trouble getting sugarbeets, wheat and every crop out of the field.” Bremer Insurance Crop Insurance Agent Ryan Adam says there’s no monumental changes for 2020. There is more clarification on prevent plant. “They did a major change last year, dropping to a five percent buy-up,” says Adam. “Nothing has changed there.” Farmers have many questions about how to handle corn left in the field over winter. Risk Management Agency Regional Director Eric Bashore clarifies the RMA is not extending the end of the insurance period for corn and soybeans. That deadline is Tuesday, December 10. However, farmers can work with their crop insurance agent to fill out a notice of loss. If a claim isn’t in by the deadline, farmers may be limited in their options. Listen to the story.
