The long harvest season hasn’t had a big impact on AGP’s new soybean processing plant in Aberdeen, South Dakota. AGP Merchandising Manager Adam Piper says the plant has been crushing soybeans since July. “Obviously, harvest has been spread out. That helps us in some ways and hurts us in others. The late harvest hurts us to get soybean supplies to the facilities, but when things are spaced out, it helps with logistics. We’ve been running well, seeing good results out of the plant.” Despite a slowdown in soybean crush this marketing year, Piper expects the soybean meal demand to remain stable. “Crush has been lots lower than it was last year, but we’re still maintaining as much of the protein market share as we can. Overall, the market is stable.”
