Based in Freemont, Ohio, Sunrise Cooperative Vice President of Grain Craig Haugaard says after a very late spring, harvest is just getting started in the southern part of the state. “We’ve harvested about 30 percent of the soybeans so far. Nothing is rolling for corn yet,” says Haugaard. “We had a lot of prevent plant issues. The northern half of the state is still a few weeks out from harvest.” Haugaard is expecting corn yields to be low enough that the area will need to import corn. “One month ago, a feed mill was giving 94 cents over on basis. It seems like things are settled now. Immediate needs are covered, but I think it will be a real battle moving forward. I expect to see interesting basis movement.”
