Potato harvest is on hold north and south of the Grand Forks, North Dakota area. Northern Plains Potato Growers Association Marketing and Communications Director Ted Kreis says there’s too much water everywhere. “In the near future, there’s a possibility farmers could start harvest again in Pembina and Walsh counties. South of Grand Forks, no one is making any bets at all.” Kreis says there will be a smaller potato crop in the Red River Valley. That could mean better prices for fresh potatoes. “Prices are holding up right now at the mid $20s for an A sized red potato. That’s about $5 to $10 per hundredweight higher than last year. Though we don’t know where we’ll sit yet and other places can help determine price.”
