Wet conditions and muddy fields keep delaying wheat harvest in North Dakota. Berthold farmer Mark Birdsall says west of Highway 83 there’s a lot of wheat standing. “I’d guess there’s 40 to 50 percent to harvest in this western third of the state. It’s been a triage of what you want to get before things are ruined.” Further south near Reeder, North Dakota, farmer Russell Doe received about 4.5 inches of rain last month. There’s still about 2,300 acres, including durum, to harvest. “The stuff I’ve checked is so high in vomitoxin and sprout damage that elevators won’t buy it.” It won’t be known how much wheat was left in the field until the Risk Management Agency gets final production data from farmers. Listen to the story.
