According to the 2019 USDA Small Grains Summary, all wheat production for 2019 is 1.9 billion bushels. That is up four percent from the 2018 total of 1.8 billion bushels. Harvested area is at 38.1 million acres, down four percent from the previous year. Yield is estimated at 51.6 bushels per acres, a slight increase from 2018. Winter wheat production was up 10 percent with a yield of 53.6 bushels per acres. Other spring wheat production dropped four percent to 600 million bushels, yielding a record-tying 48.3 bushels per acre. Barley production increased 12 percent to 171 million bushels. The average yield was down just slightly at 77.4 bushels per acre. The National Agricultural Statistics Service will resurvey reported acreage not yet harvested in a number of states. If the newly collected data justifies any changes, NASS will update these estimates in the November 8 Crop Production report.
