Supporters of U.S. ethanol testified in a hearing on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Volume Obligations Wednesday. At the hearing, the National Corn Growers Association asked the EPA to keep the Renewable Fuel Standard whole by accounting for waived ethanol gallons. Growth Energy’s Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, Chris Bliley, echoed a similar concern, saying ethanol plants have closed, trade has been cut and the EPA claims it’s too difficult for refiners to follow the law. Bliley says the message speaks volumes to ethanol investors and farmers. For 2020, the EPA is proposing to maintain an implied conventional ethanol requirement of 15 billion gallons.
