Winter wheat is being harvested near Onida, South Dakota. “We started harvest about one week ago and are about 40 percent complete right now,” says Oahe Grain – Onida location manager Tim Luken. “I had some concerns about quality issues. We did see some scab in the early crop, but that is getting less now.” Lukens says quality has been excellent, but test weights are lighter. Protein is averaging around 12 percent. “Yields are also good at 70 to 75 bushels an acre,” he says. “The spring wheat could also have very good yields.”
