Crops in the New Rockford, North Dakota area are taking off after a dry start this spring. James River Ag owner Taylor Koepplin says the corn crop is over 50 percent tasseled. “The soybeans and pinto beans are mainly flowering, but starting to get a few pods. I’ve seen one field of sunflowers starting to bloom, but lot of them just aren’t quite ready yet.” Koepplin says timely rains this summer are aiding in crop development. The area has avoided severe weather so far this growing season. “We picked up a half inch last Sunday, so that was good timing for the bean fields. We’re holding on nicely here.” Koepplin anticipates wheat harvest to begin around the second week of August.
