The Food and Drug Administration received thousands of public comments about the labeling plant-based beverages with dairy terms, like soy milk or almond milk. The Plant-Based Foods Association reviewed the public comments and found 76 percent oppose labeling restrictions. National Milk Producers Federation Senior Vice President Chris Galen said the comment period was to determine if consumers understand the nutritional differences between milk and the plant-based products and just send in postcards. In addition to the FDA, bills have been introduced in Congress to prevent the alternative products to be labeled with dairy terminology.
