The snow pack is starting to melt in the Red River Basin and so far, it’s considered a slow thaw. Grand Forks-based National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Greg Gust is hopeful the big runoff will be delayed. “Even if we get to the point where we have a day or two where the nighttime temperature stays above freezing, that will mostly happen in west-central Minnesota in the near-term,” says Gust. “Some areas will see creeks starting to break free, but it will be about a week or two until that happens in the main valley corridor.” Listen to the story.
