The USDA held the first farm bill implementation listening session Tuesday, focusing on farm production and conservation. The USDA heard feedback on crop insurance, the Agricultural Risk Coverage, Price Loss Coverage and the Dairy Margin Coverage program. Agriculture groups urged USDA for timely implementation of the farm bill. National Farmers Union Government Relations Director Matt Perdue said there is also a need to add more local staff for the Farm Service Agency. “According to the USDA’s 2019 budget, full-time employee equivalents were cut. This has left many county FSA offices overwhelmed,” said Perdue. “This is a situation that will become a greater concern as farmers navigate decisions.”
