Minnesota dairy farmers are eager to learn more about the new Dairy Margin Coverage program. Goodhue dairy farmer and Minnesota Milk Producers President Dave Buck says there’s hope the program will be better than the Margin Protection Program.“MPP disappointed a lot of people,” Buck explains. “I think there’s been a lot of changes made in DMC. I hope dairy farms will take the time to explore it as an option.” The DMC program is expected to benefit all dairies, especially those with 200 cows or less. Buck has larger dairy farms. “We’ll still be able to cover our first five million pounds,” he says. “Then, there’s the Dairy Revenue Protection program and Livestock Gross Margin program are still going to be available.”
