During Friday’s National Potato Council annual meeting, Executive Vice-President John Keeling told farmer directors a school breakfast amendment included in the House FY19 agriculture appropriations bill may not survive if there is an omnibus spending bill passed. Keeling explained to potato growers its more likely lawmakers will pass a continuing resolution. If language isn’t included, the NPC would work to rekindle the approach. Senior Director of Public Policy Kam Quarles said it’s been a long running issue. “We’re really happy to see that provision be included by the House and we want it to survive, but it’s really unclear at this point because this larger battle has taken hold of the spending issue.” Listen to the story for more policy priorities for the potato industry.
