President Donald Trump is set to address the nation’s largest farm organization just before noon today. “Obviously we’ll hear about current issues like border security, but I hope he’ll also talk about farm bill implementation,” says AFBF Vice President Scott VanderWal, who farms at Volga, South Dakota. With ongoing trade negotiations between the U.S. and China, there are expectations that trade will part of Trump’s speech. NDFB President Daryl Lies says Farm Bureau is supportive of getting better trade deals for agriculture. “I think the president needs to address that. He doesn’t hide from many things, so I don’t foresee him hiding from the trade issue,” says Lies. “Also, we’re still in a partial government shutdown, so I suspect Trump will address that.”
