USDA’s biotech labeling standards for food ingredients are being finalized. The sugar industry expects the regulations to be published in the next few weeks. American Sugarbeet Growers Association Executive Vice-President Luther Markwart says sugarbeet growers continue to advocate that products derived from biotech crops are no different from a conventional or organic crop if all of the DNA is removed. “It shouldn’t have to be disclosed,” says Markwart. “We hope to have a pathway to be able to achieve that.”
