The dairy portion of the proposed farm bill is likely the best part of the legislation, according to House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Collin Peterson. “The Margin Protection Program will be renamed. The new program will be made available through the FSA, but farmers can go up to $9.50 above the feed cost.” Peterson says there will be a three million acre increase for the Conservation Reserve Program, but payments will be capped at 90 percent of the county rental rates for continuous enrollment and 85 percent for the general sign-up. The Conservation Stewardship Program is also maintained. In the commodity title, there are changes in yield calculations for Agricultural Risk Coverage Program and Price Loss Coverage program.
