At the beginning of October, Badger, Minnesota farmer and rancher Shayne Isane received over 10 inches of snow. Since then, a few rain showers have moved through as well. Typically, Isane has weaned calves by now, but the corrals are still in tough shape. “We have been feeding out on pasture for a while now, so that’s tapping into our feed reserves. Hopefully we’ll get those calves weaned within the next week.” Pasture conditions in the area were poor throughout the second half of summer into fall. Therefore, Isane has been supplementing cows to keep up condition. “We put up a fair amount of corn silage and use beet pulp in rations. So, I’ll think we’ll be fine.”
