The lack of rain is a growing concern for farmers in the Minot area. Dakota Agronomy Partners seed sales manager Doug Naze says soil conditions are very dry. “We didn’t really have any water reserves. We got a little bit of snow late winter, but I think the ground was still frozen. It probably just ran right off and didn’t really soak into the ground much. When farmers first started seeding, they were pretty happy. They were getting that seat into moisture early. But now I think you’ve got to go pretty far down to find any decent moisture.” Naze thinks it will take a decent rain to get the crop out of the ground. “You know look at the forecast sometimes and you don’t know what to think. They’ve got a pretty good chance of rain and then, it disappears before you know it.”
