For U.S. Trade Ambassador and Chief Agricultural Negotiator Julie Callahan, opening markets for U.S. farm products is her top priority. “I don’t see countries; I see all of the bad behaviors,” Callahan told North Dakota farmers. “I see Japan; that’s a great country, but they’re not accepting U.S. potatoes and that’s not right. For every country, I have a wish list of things where we need to open that market for all of these U.S. products, whether it’s dairy, beef, pork, poultry, soybeans, corn, tree nuts, every commodity that’s grown in the United States.” During her stop in Grand Forks, Callahan cited the 50 percent reduction in the agricultural trade deficit.
