Small grain harvest is underway in parts of North Dakota with barley and wheat coming off earlier than many farmers expected. Buck Harvesting’s Tim Buck said yields are below expectations because of the dry growing season, but the crop is still respectable. “Quality seems pretty good. The yield is a little less than expected, but it’s been awfully dry.” Buck said fewer wheat and barley acres were planted this year as growers shifted to soybeans, corn and sunflowers, meaning the grain harvest will likely wrap up quickly.
