Farmers are facing another farm program decision this fall. Farm management specialist Kent Thiesse says current market prices point to potential PLC and ARC payments for corn, soybeans, and wheat. “Corn, the reference price for PLC payments was $4.42 a bushel. They’re estimating $4.15 a bushel, it probably results in a PLC payment between $20 to $30 per corn base acre,” said Thiesse. For soybeans, most counties could have a PLC payment in the ballpark of a $40 to $50 per acre. Thiesse said the choice between PLC and ARC should become clearer as harvest approaches. “The good news is by the time we make that choice, we’re gonna have a pretty good idea where price is prices are headed and also where where our possible yields for 2026 so it will make that decision a lot easier once we get out to this fall.”
