U.S. Meat Export Federation President and CEO Dan Halstrom says the Trump-Xi summit in Beijing delivered a breakthrough for the US beef industry after China agreed to restore access for hundreds of US beef plants. “This is great news. It’s even better news for our customers in China,” said Dan Halstrom. “The other thing that was encouraging in the release from the White House was that not only are we getting these plants relisted, we also have issues with plants that have been suspended and USTR is working on that as we speak.” Halstrom said restoring China’s access to U.S. beef could also boost prices in several other Asian markets because of stronger overall demand for U.S. beef.
