Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation Executive Director Chris Radatz says incoming Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen has a broad range of experience and will serve agriculture well. “With Thom in that role, he really is above the learning curve that some commissioners might experience; Thom has been at the table when programs have been developed.” Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Executive Director Joe Smentek has worked closely with Petersen and describes him as a strong voice for Minnesota agriculture. Smentek sees an opportunity for the new administration to reach its core constituency. “Coming off the Dayton Administration, his biggest challenge will be gaining back trust and making sure the Department of Agriculture is representing farmers instead of trying to regulate farmers.”
