Minnesota Governor-elect Tim Walz has selected Thom Petersen to be the state’s next agriculture commissioner. Petersen tells the Red River Farm Network collaboration is a focus with the new administration. “I’ve always been a big fan of Governor Walz. I was impressed by his vision and a passion for rural Minnesota then and I still am,” he says. “I really got excited to do this work with him. I feel like I can bring communication and collaboration to the department.” As the current government relations director for the Minnesota Farmers Union, Petersen is a familiar face at the state capitol and at farm events across the state. Petersen has been with MFU since 2002 and has a hobby farm at Pine City.
