Farm state lawmakers are building support for year-round E15. The proposal likely needs to be attached to another must-pass piece of legislation. Minnesota Biofuels Association Executive Director Brian Werner says that it could be the farm bill, but there are jurisdictional issues. “If it’s not the farm bill, you know, I think there’s certainly other vehicles that might be moving through,” said Werner. “The Department of Homeland Security is still technically shut down so I think there will at some point be legislation to reopen that government agency.” The congressional calendar also becomes a problem. “It gets much more difficult the closer we get to the midterm election. As soon as we can find a vehicle here in Congress, the end of spring, that’s going to be better for everybody involved to keep this out of election-year politics.” The Minnesota Biofuels Association has released a study that says Minnesota drivers saved nearly $25 million in 2024 alone by choosing E15. The cumulative savings since 2013 total $80 million. Listen to the full interview.
