Sunflower harvest is over the halfway mark in North Dakota and Minnesota. According to National Sunflower Association Executive Director John Sandbakken, good weather conditions during the growing season are reflected in the yields. “They’ve ranged from 1500 to 2700 pounds per acre. There have been outstanding yields in some places at 3500 pounds.” Test weights and oil content have also been high. However, the harvest pace is well behind average in South Dakota at just 16 percent complete. Sandbakken says the lack of progress is due to weather delays. “Farmers are trying to get soybeans off first, so that’s slowed progress down.”
