This past week, snow was the story in the eastern Dakotas and northwest Minnesota. While three-to-seven inches were common in many areas, over a foot of snow fell in a narrow band ranging from south of Valley City to north of Hannaford, North Dakota. Thankfully, drier and warmer weather is in the two-week forecast. “North Dakota started out October as one of the coldest spots in the country. In some locations it’s been 15 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit below average,” says University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana meterologist Eric Snodgrass. Long range projections into November are shaping up to be close to average. “I don’t see any signals that indicate the Northern Plains will stay super wet and snowy. Right now, I’m not seeing that in the next 45 days.”
