Black Gold Farms CEO Eric Halverson is back from a trip to Washington D.C. and the United Fresh Produce Association meeting. The meeting focused on trade, immigration, transportation and the farm bill. The farm bill supports specialty crops in two ways: Market Access Programs and specialty crop block grants. “Without a new farm bill, there is some funding for Market Access Programs that don’t have a baseline,” said Halverson. “The funding for that might go away over time until the next bill gets gets passed. It’s not a huge deal in the short run, but there is some urgency there.”
