Nearly two months ago, a fire destroyed a railroad bridge south of Cavalier and north of Crystal, North Dakota. Shortly before the fire, several local elevator and bean companies received a letter from Dakota Northern Railroad, saying the company would no longer pay for major repairs. However, nearly $60,000 dollars was secured through rail-dependent companies and local banks and businesses to rebuild the bridge. The old wood frame will be replaced with culverts and construction is underway. The railway is expected to be up and running by the first part of October. The companies in Cavalier and Walhalla represent approximately 40,000 acres of dry beans grown in the region
