Despite new leadership in the House Agriculture Committee, Minnesota Farmers Union President Gary Wertish is confident in the timely passage of the new farm bill. “This will be the first farm bill in I believe the last four that we won’t have (former Minnesota Congressman) Collin Peterson as either the chair or ranking member so this is new to us,” said Wertish. “We’re comfortable with Chair G.T. Thompson, but we don’t have leadership from the Midwest.” Wertish says building relationships is vital for a successful farm bill.
