Significant death loss in Kansas feedlots were seen this past week. Steiner Consulting Group agricultural economist Altin Kalo says the spread in fat cattle between northern and southern sales is a reflection of the weather. “There’s been a pretty significant spike in price these last few days with a really wide range of prices. The heat index, especially in Kansas, has been a contributor to this.” The limited demand to keep processing schedules going helped boost prices, too.”With the 4th of July right around the corner, packers are having to pay up to maintain kill schedules.”
