The National Weather Service’s latest briefing about the drought is calling for a mild fall before a transition to near normal or colder than normal weather during the winter and early spring. There is increasing confidence a La Nina will develop during the late fall or early winter. If that happens, it would be the second La Nina winter in a row. The odds of back-to-back warm, dry winters are very low and the National Weather Service says above average snowfall could improve the amount of soil moisture available next spring.
