After a killing frost, the replanted soybeans in the Bremen/New Rockford area of North Dakota struggled with dry soils and strong winds. Donny Allmaras says the soybean stands have been hit-and-miss. The stress takes on greater significance now that the crop has moved into the reproductive stage. “We have a lot of potential because of that, too,” said Allmaras. “If we stay optimistic and get some rains we do have opportunity. I believe they’ll be a shorter statured soybean, the nodes will be closer together, but that doesn’t matter on the number of pods we get. Short beans can still produce a good yield.”
