Basis levels across the Northern Plains are unusually firm. Kluis Commodities market analyst Jacob Burks suggests putting offers in above the market to capture the quickly changing basis. “If you have corn in the grain bin, you’re in control right now. I think it’s worth rewarding these moves because we know once they start going away, typically they go away fast. I’ve encouraged everyone to let end-users know where you’re at and where you’d let go of some grain, even if it’s a shot in the dark.” Burks says having sell orders at your local elevator is a good way to capture a basis spike.
