As President Biden makes the case for infrastructure, South Dakota Congressman Dusty Johnson says partisanship and the cost are hurdles. “This could be a long road ahead,” says Johnson. “The president proposed $2 trillion, seven times more than the $305 billion we had in the last highway bill. I think you can see how massive his proposal is and with a country already $30 trillion in debt, it’s hard to understand how we balance the need to invest with the need for fiscal responsibility. We can find that balance, but I don’t think the president is hitting the target right now.” Johnson thinks building on the successes of the past will be important moving forward.
