Across the tri-state region, USDA expects spring wheat acreage to decline slightly. North Dakota is down two percent from last year. Minnesota and South Dakota are down three percent. North Dakota canola acres are approaching 1.8 million acres, up 18 percent from one year ago. In Minnesota, canola acres are forecast to increase 16 percent. Fewer acres will be devoted to sunflowers. The prospective acres for oil-type sunflowers are down 28 percent nationwide. That includes a 41 percent drop in North Dakota. Oil-type sunflower acres are down 25 percent in Minnesota and South Dakota. Seed supplies have been tight for dry beans, resulting in a six percent decline in acreage in North Dakota and a 16 percent drop in Minnesota.
