More details about the infrastructure proposal and what it means for agriculture are expected to unfold in the next few weeks. “Roads and bridges need to be improved,” said Mike Steenhoek, executive director, Soy Transportation Coalition. “Our port system for inland waterways and all of those segments require significant degrees of investment. We’ve made progress lately, but more needs done.” Rural broadband and clean energy may also be part of the proposal. “Our hope is whatever is produced, it tends to the needs of Rural America.” The challenge will be how to pay for the legislation. “At some point we have to remind ourselves we’re not talking about Monopoly money.”
