U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai is meeting virtually with trade leaders in her first week on the job. On Tuesday, Tai met with Japan’s Foreign Minister to discuss China’s unfair trade practices and shared interests. On Monday, Tai met with leaders from Canada, the European Union and United Kingdom. The discussion with Canada centered on the need for full implementation of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement; the countries will pursue a USMCA Free Trade Commission meeting with Mexico in the future. Tai also continues to review the U.S. – United Kingdom free trade agreement negotiations and discussions will continue at the G7 Trade Ministerial.
