The state budget is a primary focus for Minnesota lawmakers this session. Last week, Governor Tim Walz released revised budget recommendations. Representative John Burkel says the agriculture budget is in a good place. “The only concerning thing I see in the Department of Agriculture’s budget is a provision on increased pesticide fees.” Burkel says there are issues in other areas of the state budget. “We have a $1.6 billion surplus and $2 billion of revenue. along with the federal money coming. There’s just a lot of money coming at us. The governor is still looking at tax increases. There’s issues with that we need to work through and we can’t seem to agree with the Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness.”
